ROCKY
I loved Rocky the first time I saw him. Rocky was a beautiful mantle great dane. His markings were almost perfect. He had the best personality and a shiny coat. However, Rocky was born without a tail and had some issues with his "manhood". The breeder was going to donate him to a good home. He, instead, went to a nice home with little kids. Rocky was a big puppy. He a lived in a barn and did not have any manners. His new owners just could not keep him. With his "issues" he was pretty high maintenance. Rocky went to live at his second home. This home also had small children, but Rocky fitted in. The family worked and the kids went to school, so Rocky was home with the other dog, alone, much of the time. The new owner just could not seem to get him potty trained. So, sometime in January, he came to me and said he just could not keep Rocky any longer. He had too many "issues". I told him I knew some Dane rescue people and I would come out and see Rocky and then contact them to find him a new home. I did not want him going to a shelter. Needless to say, when I got to the house, I saw a tall, extremely thin puppy. I knew he must be almost one. I had never seen a dog as thin as he was. Much to my husband's dismay, I put him in my car and brought him home. We slowing started building up his diet. He was hungry!! However, once he started getting food into his stomach, diaharra started...and the smell was worse than terrible. Come to find out, he had Giardia. No wonder nobody could potty train him. Rocky continued to have problems, such as peeing blood and his "manhood" just wasn't right.
Rocky was loved and lived with us until April 12, 2010. He had put on enough weight (he was 100 lbs) and was ready to get his "manhood" repaired, and get neutured, so we could find a "forever"home. The vet called me and told me he could not be fixed. He did not develop correctly and he didn't really have a penis and didn't really have a vagina. The pee just kindof came out of nowhere, mixed with blood. He would always have issues and would eventually die from infection.
I take comfort in knowing that Rocky was loved. He will be missed terribly by my family as well as our Lulu, who was his soul mate. Lulu hasn't been the same since he left. So, this page is dedicated to Rocky and all the other rescue dogs. We love you Rocky and we will see you again some day!
